Mayor Ken McClure, Bass Pro Shops Founder Johnny Morris and a crowd of citizens cheered more than 300 service members from U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood as they arrived to a welcome rally on Dec. 23, 2019 at front of Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World in Springfield, MO. The rally, complete with music from the Bear Brass 135th U.S. Army Band, served to kick off a day of holiday fun for service members and trainees who, for a variety of reasons, were unable to go home for the holidays.
Mayor McClure proclaimed Dec. 23, 2019 officially Fort Leonard Wood Day in Springfield and recognized high-ranking military officials for their service in our state and country. Service members enjoyed a tour of the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium and lunch at the White River Conference Room, all courtesy of Bass Pro.
In the afternoon, the honored guests visited a variety of entertainment venues including Andy B’s, Gillioz Theatre, and Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park. Rounding out the evening was a trip to Jordan Valley Ice Park for ice skating, a “Taste of Springfield” dinner and “Home for the Holiday” Musical Show.
Donations to help cover event expenses are welcomed.
Mayor Ken McClure and the City of Springfield
A huge thank you to the many partners who came together to make the inaugural Home for the Holidays event a memorable time for the service members and trainees from Ft. Leonard Wood! We could not have pulled this off without all of your hard work, resources and services.
